Ekto VR Skates

Ekto VR is a startup out of the AlphaLabGear accelerator in Pittsburgh.

​

The company is working on developing motorized skates for virtual reality that keep the user centered in the room no matter where or how fast they walk. Video

While I worked there as a structures engineer intern, I was one of four full-time team members.

While working at Ekto VR,

  • Designed, analyzed, and tested key components and assemblies of the flagship product.

  • Discussed and decided on important goals and milestones for the company to achieve.

  • Traveled internationally to give on-site demos of our product to potential customers.

  • Worked around the clock to reach tight deadlines, even pulling 24h shifts.

  • Communicated and planned with other employees to ensure the various assemblies within the product worked well together.

  • Used rapid iteration to create optimal parts and assemblies for the product.

  • Designed and built force-sensing skate using load cells to create predictive models of user behavior.

  • Taught myself how to mount, operate, and test strain gauges so they can be used in future version of the flagship product.
